The “First Pitch” crew broke down what they thought about those issues in baseball this week as well as discussing when Stephen Strasburg will jion the Nats, the best rivalry in sports, and players that have found the “fountain of youth” so far this season! They wrapped things up by making their picks for today’s MLB action.

They also broke down the Floyd Mayweather’s victory over Sugar Shane Mosley as well as Saturday night’s NBA and NHL playoff action.

The First Pitch crew talked about who was hot and not in the MLB. Also discussed was what MLB should do with the Pirates, how much Pujols is worth, and how Cliff Lee will affect the Mariners. They then went on to chat about the Arizona protests, Starlin Castro to the Cubs, and Konerko’s revival. The show was finished with picks for the day’s games.

Today’s show kicked off with a lengthy discussion of the NCAA Tournament’s expansion from 65-68 teams. Following that, the Friday KRUI Sports crew broke down the NBA and NHL playoffs. There was quite a bit of NBA discussion that also included the topic of LeBron James winning yet another MVP award. Jordan introduced two new segments on today’s show: “Bonehead(s) of the Day” and “Child, Please” in honor of Chad Ochocinco’s recent success on Dancing with the Stars.

Today, the KRUI First Pitch crew talked about what teams/players were hot and not over the past week. They also talked about problems with the Red and White Sox as well as Zambrano going to the bullpen. Lastly, they talked about stolen bases being in again and Ben Zobrist’s contract extension and then finished up the show by making picks for Saturday’s games.

On this afternoon’s show, the KRUI Sports Friday crew discussed the results of Thursday night’s first round of the NFL Draft that saw former Iowa Hawkeye Bryan Bulaga taken 23rd overall by the Green Bay Packers (the 2nd offensive lineman to be taken in the first round in the Kirk Ferentz era). They also broke down other surprises of the first round and some predictions for the weekend. Also discussed was some major league baseball and the issue of whether or not magical powers and Harry Potter have ever existed (worth listening to – you’ll at least get a laugh out of it!).

Nebraska Safety and NFL Draft Prospect Larry Asante called in to kick off this morning’s show. He talked about his time at Nebraska and the positive changes that occurred when Bo Pelini came in as Head Coach. He also discussed how Coach Pelini and his staff helped prepare him for a career in the NFL as well as how his on and off the field personalities are quite opposite from each other. The Sports Sunday crew also discussed Iowa Football Spring Practice as well as the NBA playoffs.

Iowa Football Spring Practice was on the agenda today and it took up most of the show. Informative sound bytes from Coach Norm Parker and Coach O’Keefe were played and the Friday crew discussed the depth chart and position battles going into Spring Practice and next season. Chicago Blackhawks playoff hockey was discussed at the end of the show.

IOWA CITY, IA – Today’s KRUI Sports Sunday included call-in interviews from Eric Decker (Minnesota – WR), Alterraun Verner (UCLA – CB), and Nolan Carroll (Maryland – CB) compliments of Scott Porter at Sidelinescouting.Net. It was one of the best days of call-in interviews that the station has had. Every single prospect that called in gave an excellent interview with plenty of insight to their draft training process.

IOWA CITY, IA – Today’s show was the start of a newly titled Friday show as the “College Hardwood” season has come to an end. Jordan, Alex, Mike, Brendan, Jeremy, and Chris recapped the Final Four and National Title games and also disussed some general college basketball topics, including Mike’s “love” for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The crew also discussed The Masters and a little bit of baseball to wrap up the show.

This past Saturday, April 3rd, Dave Heffernan was joined by Dan Linden, KRUI’s National League blogger, as well as KRUI Sports Director Jordan Loperena for the debut of “KRUI First Pitch”. They broke down their predictions of the upcoming season by division as well as predictions for MVP, Cy-Young, and World Series. Dave Heffernan also led an on-air interview with Fantasy Baseball expert Jonah Keri. In the future, Dave Creagh, KRUI’s American League blogger, will also join in on the action.

IOWA CITY, IA – Today, KRUI Sports Director Jordan Loperena was alongside Jeremy Blumberg and The Daily Iowan’s Brendan Stiles, breaking down last night’s Final Four action as well as more discussion about the season of college basketball that is soon to be left behind us in the record books. The three of them broke down the National Championship matchup on Monday night between Butler and Duke, in what Jordan deemed a “Hoosiers-like” championship matchup. The three predicted Duke all-around to take home the title Monday night and ended things with a little baseball talk.

IOWA CITY, IA – In this year’s final College Hardwood Preview show of the year, Sports Director Jordan Loperena and the Hardwood Preview cast broke down this weekend’s Final Four action and talked about Coach of the Year Jim Boeheim , Player of the Year Evan Turner and their runner ups. Specifically, they discussed how neither of these award winners or their runner-ups are going to be featured in this weekend’s Final Four.
Joining the College Hardwood Preview gang for call-in interviews live from Indianapolis were Mike Ellis of the Butler Collegian and Joey Nowak of The State News, Michigan State’s student newspaper. Both writers featured tremendous commentary on their matchup this weekend and gave the show a good sense of what this week has been like in Indianapolis for both squads. KRUI would like to thank both of these writers and their newspapers for the time they put in to make this happen.

IOWA CITY, IA – On Monday morning, new Iowa Men’s Basketball Head Coach Fran McCaffery met the media alongside Athletic Director Gary Barta. McCaffery brings back-to-back-to-back MAAC Regular Season and MAAC Tournament championships as well as three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances with him to Iowa City, including first-round wins over Vanderbilt and Ohio State before losing to a talented Purdue squad in this year’s first round.
There was a sense of anxiousness and optimism inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Monday morning amongst not only the administration, new head coach and media but also with the large amount of former Iowa men’s hoopsters in attendance to this morning’s press conference.

On this morning’s show, KRUI Sports Director Jordan Loperena and the Sports Sunday crew recapped and broke down Saturday’s Elite Eight games between Kansas State and Butler and West Virginia and Kentucky. They talked about Cinderella Butler dancing their way back home to Indianapolis and the grand ball that is the 2010 Final Four as well as West Virginia’s dominating victory over Kentucky, also punching their ticket to Indy. The Sports Sunday crew also discussed and predicted Sunday’s Elite Eight games with Michigan State butting heads against Tennessee and Duke clashing with a red-hot Baylor squad in Houston.

After a month and a half hiatus, KRUI Sports now has their podcasts alive and kicking again. On Friday afternoon’s show, KRUI Sports Director and host Jordan Loperena recapped Thursday night’s NCAA Tournament games as the madness continued with Syracuse getting knocked off by Butler, Xavier and Kansas State going into a 2-OT thriller, Kentucky striking midnight for Cinderella Cornell, and West Virginia taking care of business against Washington.
The Hardwood Preview gang also broke down tonight’s NCAA Tournament games as Ohio State takes on Tennessee, Purdue tries to take down Duke, surprising St. Mary’s clanks heads with Baylor and Michigan State collides with Cinderella Northern Iowa. NCAA Tournament MVP’s and our top Coach of the Tournament are discussed as well.

On Friday afternoon, Jordan Loperena and the College Hardwood Preview gang were at it again, breaking down this past week’s Big Ten action as well as this weekend’s upcoming Top 25 and Big Ten action. Anthony Tucker’s decision to leave the Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball squad and Iowa’s victory over Northwestern on Wednesday night were discussed. Other topics in the sports world that were briefly discussed were the talks of Texas joining the Big Ten and Frank Thomas, ”The Big Hurt”, announcing his retirement.

KRUI Sports Director Jordan Loperena and Kiff Richmann led the interview with help from other members of the KRUI Sports Staff. Coach Gable gave what was the largest online listening audience in the history of KRUI quite an experience as he revealed the truth to some of his legends and shared some tremendous stories from his wrestling past.
